Professor Suzanne Sekula


Suzanne M Sekula (second from the left) began teaching in the Interior Design Department at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh as an adjunct faculty member in 2005 and became a full time faculty member in 2007.   She has a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design from La Roche College and Master of Science in Interior Architecture from Chatham University. Suzanne is a NCIDQ (National Council for Interior Design Qualification) certified Interior Designer and a LEED AP BD + C (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional in Building Design and Construction). She is a professional member of IIDA (International Interior Design Association) where she has been active in the IIDA Pittsburgh City Center, holding various board and advisory positions throughout her career, currently serving as the IIDA Faculty Advisor to the Art Institute of Pittsburgh IIDA Campus Center.

Suzanne has served the AiP institution by chairing the Community Outreach Senate Committee, serving on the Faculty Advancement Committee, and working to achieve CIDA (Council for Interior Design Accreditation) for the AiP Interior Design Department. Along with being the Faculty Advisor for the AiP IIDA Campus Center and Interior Design Student Professional Alliance (IDSPA), Suzanne continues to bridge the classroom environment to the professional environment by connecting students with professional opportunities like the Heinz History Center Design Collaboration and Student Sustainable Design Competition, along with various industry field trips and professional speakers. Most recently, Suzanne helped to lead a bus trip, along with faculty member Lisa Whitney and Associate Dean Greg Butler, to Chicago for students to attend the NEOCON tradeshow, North America’s largest design exposition and conference for commercial interiors.

Along with her strong commitment to the AiP community and students, Suzanne continues to practice within the interior design industry through her company, Suzanne M. Sekula Interior Design + Sustainable Interiors. She started the design practice in 2007 where she provides design services for commercial and residential clients, with over 500,000 square feet of interior spaces to date.

Suzanne resides in Wexford Pennsylvania with her husband Alan and their daughters, three year old Genevieve and one year old Penelope.
